House Update, Behind the Walls
We're just about wrapping up all the construction items on the house that we'll never see. The stuff behind the walls and in the floors. And although these things are obviously so important, I'm really looking forward to moving on to the stuff we will see. That's a...
Nectarine & Corn Salad
I love this time of year in Spokane when the produce is at its peak. Stone fruits, corn, tomatoes, you name it. I originally adapted this recipe from one by Green Kitchen Stories a few years back for my friend Joelle's birthday party on our patio. The cornfield was...
Previewing a Farm Estate Sale
I took a drive out to see Audri at the Farm Estate Sale she's preparing for, just outside of Spokane. It was 100 degrees outside so it was nice to get out into the country for a tiny bit of a reprieve. Audri will be hosting the sale at the farm in a couple of weeks,...
Wildflower Mountain
Colin surprised me with a hiking trip to Canada for my birthday and it was one of the prettiest getaways. The trip started with a helicopter ride out of Golden, British Columbia and directly to the Purcell Mountain Lodge. We arrived around 8am to a lovely breakfast...
New House Progress
I’m happy to report that the windows were delivered last week and put into place. We ended up going with commercial windows that aren’t normally available for home construction, but we’re lucky to have a close friend who owns a window factory and he made it possible...
Designing Our New Front Door
As we’ve been making great progress on our new home, it was time to design the front door and although our house had been designed with a large single front door, I decided to go with a double front door instead. I thought I’d take you along on the process that went...
IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!
ALL ABOUT THE FAIR
A Re-Cap of The Farm Chicks Fair 2016
This year's Farm Chicks Fair has come and gone. The "County Fair" theme was too much fun and I enjoyed incorporating the theme into The Farm Chicks space. In addition to the cotton candy entryway arch that was created to feel like the entrance gates at a county fair,...
Great Displays at The Farm Chicks Fair
I love a good retail display. As a young girl, I was a big fan of a store in my little town of Yreka, California, named Directions. There was a lady there by the name of Yoni who would create really great window displays that I would just stop and stare at. Later, in...
The Farm Chicks Adventure
For the last several years, my friend Katelynhas visited The Farm Chicks Fair, documenting it in her own special style. This year she did a great job capturing this year's ADVENTURE theme. Fun in line before the fair: Special little moments during the fair: The book...
AROUND THE HOME
Building Our New Home in the City
We've been working on the design of our new home in the city of Spokane. Our street is lined with old homes, each unique in its own way and it was important for us to create something that fit our style as well as blend into the neighborhood. I knew all along that it...

What You Found! Shannon’s Vintage Ice Machine
Today I'm sharing the latest in my show-and-tell themed series of posts, "What You Found" which features people and their favorite vintage finds. Last summer, Shannon's husband ripped down their deck and built a much larger one. But with all of the new deck space,...
