Porto, Portugal Day 5
We rolled into the second largest city in Portugal today, Porto, with just a few plans and the general thought of exploring. We discovered half its 2.3 million population might just be cruise ship passengers! We made our way through the crowds for long enough to take...
Nazare, Costa Nova, & Aveiro, Portugal Day 4
Colin has been wanting to go to Nazare and see the big waves everyone in the surfing world is talking about. This little village on Portugal's Silver Coast is home to some of the biggest waves in the world. You wouldn't have known it today because it was pretty calm...
Cascais, Sintra, & Obidos, Portugal Day 3
We said adeus! to Lisbon and bom dia! to Cascais today. It was a beautiful and sunny day and we were at Pescadores beach for some kayaking by 9am. It was fun to be out with the fishermen who were gathering their catches for the day. After paddling from the Pescadores...
Lisbon, Portugal Days 1 & 2
We made it into Lisbon just in time to check in at our hotel and leave our bags with the front desk before running back out and catching a cab to Jardim da Estrela to meet our food tasting tour guide. Somehow we were only two minutes late! It was 4:30 in the afternoon...
Portugal, My Heart
Colin and I arrived in Portugal today, beginning a journey that has a lot of meaning and is sort of like a new beginning to me. Having been born to parents who seemed to be searching for something in life that was beyond anything I understood, there were a lot of...
House Update – Masonry
When I first wrote about our new home project, I explained that we had originally planned on using white brick but it turned out that it wasn't available and we had decided to go in a different direction. We looked at different natural stones and eventually decided to...
IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!

Are you an expert on all things Farm Chicks or will this be your first year visiting The Farm Chicks Fair? Either way, I thought it'd be fun for the experts and newbies alike to learn some lesser known facts about Farm Chicks. 2017 is the fifteenth year of The Farm...
The Making of the Home Sweet Home Poster
The Farm Chicks Fair theme this year is "Home Sweet Home" and I've had a lot of fun bringing the theme together in this year's poster. I'd had the idea in my mind about featuring the back of a dollhouse with a hand shown, placing a piece of furniture to show the scale...
The 2016 Farm Chicks Fair Pre-Show Party
My friend, Jenny, and I were talking about it'd be fun to participate in The Farm Chicks Fair again this year. Last year she did a couple of book signings and it was really fun to have her. So I put on my thinking cap and thought it'd be so great to invite her to be...
AROUND THE HOME
House Progress Update – Framing
After a late spring and some seasonal road restrictions on concrete trucks, they were finally able to get in to our property and pour the final little slab in the mechanical room that was needed before the framing on the new house could begin. With the slab in place,...
Easter Table Place Marker Cards
A nice element for the Easter table is place cards to set at each person's seat, marking their spot at the table. Is it necessary? In most cases. no, but it sure adds another happy little touch to the table, and in this case, a bit of springtime whimsy with miniature...
Easter Table Decoration Nests
Creating a beautiful Easter table is such a happy task. This year I thought it'd be fun to create sweet little egg-filled nests and place one on each plate as part of a lovely Easter and springlike tablescape. The best part is that it takes just a few supplies and not...
