Last night, a bunch of creative friends met at the new flower farm, The Farmhouse on GreenBluff, for our annual dinner. Our friend, Alisa Lewis, founded The Creatives quite a few years ago and we've been gathering for dinner every year since. This year our dinner was...
House Update – Brick and Angle Iron
In my last update on the house construction, I talked about the brick that we'd be using as the siding. I had explained that we had originally planned on using brick but it turned out that the type of brick we wanted wasn’t available so we had decided to go in a...
Monsanto, Portugal Day 8
If you've ever wondered if there's a storybook town that's like the pages of a children's book come to life, I always wondered that too. As a little girl, I was building that place - little villages out of twigs and bark and dreaming of the life I'd have one day. I...
Douro Valley & Aldeia das Dez, Portugal Day 7
We took a Sunday drive today, only it was Wednesday in Portugal. The road out of Geres heading towards the Douro Valley twisted and rolled down to the water and through the forest, through open farmland and little villages along the way then back up the mountain and...
Soajo & Geres National Park, Portugal Day 6
The one lane cobblestone road into Soajo gave us a hint of what was to come. Looking down at the valley below we could see hundreds of acres of terraced vineyards, farmland, and lovely little homes. We rounded the corner and were met by three wild horses on the street...
IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!

The Curated Spaces at The Farm Chicks Fair – 2017
The 2017 Farm Chicks Fairwas my favorite yet. Each year the Curators evolve and continue to curate the most wonderful spaces. I have a series of posts planned to share all the magic surrounding Farm Chicks and thought you'd enjoy seeing some of the displays,...
The 2017 Farm Chicks Entry Display Installation
My theme for The Farm Chicks Fairthis year was home sweet home, which made dreaming up the entry display a lot of fun. There were so many possibilities. Because of my history, it seems like I'm usually pulled into the direction of making something out of nothing and...
AROUND THE HOME
New House Progress
I’m happy to report that the windows were delivered last week and put into place. We ended up going with commercial windows that aren’t normally available for home construction, but we’re lucky to have a close friend who owns a window factory and he made it possible...
Designing Our New Front Door
As we’ve been making great progress on our new home, it was time to design the front door and although our house had been designed with a large single front door, I decided to go with a double front door instead. I thought I’d take you along on the process that went...
House Update – Floors, Walls, and Trusses
Things have been trucking right along at the building site and every day there's so much progress to be seen. We've watched the house go from floor joists, to sub floor, to main floor wall framing, upstairs wall framing, and on to the trusses in a short time. This is...
