How to Make Dish Towels from Vintage Tablecloths

How to Make Dish Towels from Vintage Tablecloths

A favorite way for me to use stained and torn vintage tablecloths is to turn them into pretty dishtowels. I always found it hard to pass up pretty old tablecloths spotted at yard sales. Some had holes, others stained beyond usability. But this old material is the best...

How to Make a Cloud

How to Make a Cloud

A few years ago, I had great fun creating some great big clouds out of paper mache to be hung at the entrance to The Farm Chicks Fair. But before we got them to The Farm Chicks Fair, we had fun with them at home. The boys thought they made cool photo ops. But how do...

My Parents – The Originals

My Parents – The Originals

Something I have great admiration for are people who are original. Those people who have original thoughts, are creative, and do what they do because it's just who they are. I love that about my family history and know it's why I'm not overly interested in trends or...

The Day My Intuition Saved Us

The Day My Intuition Saved Us

I've always believed that a special gift women are born with is their intuition and it's something I've relied on all my life. I honestly believe that if we carefully listen to our inner voice, it can be intuitive. I will say that I think it's something that drives...

My Laundry & Mudroom – Part 2

My Laundry & Mudroom – Part 2

When designing our home, it made sense to use pocket doors in a few rooms. The laundry room was one. A door hanging into the hallway wouldn't be ideal and if it went the other direction, it'd be blocking my access to the laundry chute. So, a pocket door it was. A huge...

IT'S ME, SERENA!

In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!

Crafting a Fabric-Covered Menu Board

Crafting a Fabric-Covered Menu Board

Every week, I make a menu for the upcoming week's meals.  I make my grocery list based on those meals and then post what the choices are for the week.  It's a great way to stay on budget and be organized at the same time.  I've always used a chalkboard to post the...

Curtain Crush

Curtain Crush

I love simple curtains and I have to admit, even after all these years, I still have a crush on them.  And here's the good part:  I made them out of vintage sheets.  It's true.   I LOVE good cotton sheets (vintage) that have that sturdy, yet soft feel.  And whenever I...
