How to Make an Apple Blossom Floral Arrangement
The wild apple blossoms are so beautiful right now. It's the perfect time to gather a bunch and make a beautiful floral arrangement or two. The remnants of our country's early pioneer days are evident as you drive the roads near our home. It's common to see wild apple...
The Making of the Home Sweet Home Poster
The Farm Chicks Fair theme this year is "Home Sweet Home" and I've had a lot of fun bringing the theme together in this year's poster. I'd had the idea in my mind about featuring the back of a dollhouse with a hand shown, placing a piece of furniture to show the scale...
Decorating for a Party in an Event Center
We celebrated my friend Serina's birthday this weekend. (Yes, we have the same name) and I thought it'd be fun to share the common challenges of decorating for a party at an event center when the location decor conflicts with the party decor and what can be done to...
Tips for Baking Fresh Peach Pies
With summer, come the most delicious tree-ripened peaches that make for heavenly pies. And it's true that tree-ripened peaches are the juiciest there are, so how do you avoid a pie that's runny or soupy? Here are my tips: A lot of pie recipes out there don't account...
The 2016 Farm Chicks Fair Pre-Show Party
My friend, Jenny, and I were talking about it'd be fun to participate in The Farm Chicks Fair again this year. Last year she did a couple of book signings and it was really fun to have her. So I put on my thinking cap and thought it'd be so great to invite her to be...
A Re-Cap of The Farm Chicks Fair 2016
This year's Farm Chicks Fair has come and gone. The "County Fair" theme was too much fun and I enjoyed incorporating the theme into The Farm Chicks space. In addition to the cotton candy entryway arch that was created to feel like the entrance gates at a county fair,...
IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!

How to Make a Cloud
A few years ago, I had great fun creating some great big clouds out of paper mache to be hung at the entrance to The Farm Chicks Fair. But before we got them to The Farm Chicks Fair, we had fun with them at home. The boys thought they made cool photo ops. But how do...
My Laundry & Mudroom – Part 2
When designing our home, it made sense to use pocket doors in a few rooms. The laundry room was one. A door hanging into the hallway wouldn't be ideal and if it went the other direction, it'd be blocking my access to the laundry chute. So, a pocket door it was. A huge...
My Farmhouse Laundry & Mudroom
When we were designing our farmhouse, it was important for me to create a spacious and functional laundry / mudroom that accommodated our needs and was pretty at the same time. I spend a lot of time in this room and I think it's really nice for the space to be cheery....
