AROUND THE HOME
Re-Purposed Trail Marker Sign Trays
A discovery of some old wooden trail markers led to re-purposing them into these cute and campy useful household trays. They're sure to be a hit any time you bring them out. To make your own, search for any thick old wooden signs or boards that fit your style. Then...
Handmade DIY Fabric Food Covers
We created these pretty fabric food covers as a way to keep picnic foods covered, in a non-plastic-wrap way. We remembered the shower cap-looking food covers that were common in the 1970s and decided that we could update them to fit our style. A bonus is that if they...
Creating a Raised Bed Fenced Garden
One of the first things we did when we moved into our farmhouse was to build a garden featuring raised beds and recycled fencing. We recycled the fencing from another area on the property where we no longer needed it. It's six feet high to dissuade deer from jumping...
Handmade Fabric Party Banner
Sometimes I'm in need of banners or signs for events and parties and I like thinking of ways to make them cute, while still serving their purpose. These are a great way to lead guests to parking areas, give directions, or simply let them know they've arrived at the...
Cutting Board Drawer
When I was thinking about the layout of my kitchen, I wanted to incorporate as many features as I could that would make the most out of my space. (I like everything to be tucked away). I especially liked the idea of having a chopping block/cutting board drawer that...
Farmhouse Crown Molding & Base Trim
The crown molding is all installed and looking great. It sure dresses up the place! The base trim is installed upstairs and will go in downstairs after all of the tile has gone in: In the master bath, Dirk designed a pattern that takes a 6" x 6" tile and makes it act...
Classic Farmhouse Built-Ins
I think classic built-in cabinetry and furniture is such an important part of a farmhouse. I've walked through so many old places, filled with room after room of built-ins. I love how they make a house feel. Wherever possible (and feasible), I've added in built-ins of...
Farmhouse Ceilings
Chuck is finishing up the installation of all of the tongue and groove and beadboard ceiling boards in our farmhouse and I'm so happy with the job he's done. Here he is just getting ready to get all safety geared up. That ladder is high! I went with wider boards in...

IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!
