Christmas tree in Joy's home

Joy

I have been “following my passion” for 9 years now. I started with opening an antique and collectible store in the front half of my home and have continued to evolve and change directions along the way.

It has always been important for me to work from home, so I could be with my family. When I first started my business I had 3 teenage boys, now they are 25, 23, and 21.

My business has always been a “family affair”, the boys have gone to auctions, loaded, unloaded, cleaned up, rebuilt and re-purposed many wonderful treasures.

When I was 45 and our “miracle baby” arrived, it was a good thing that I loved being a mom and working at home.  My husband converted the barn into a store and Baby Sam and I worked together collecting vintage treasures and selling our wares.

I have enjoyed having a location where I could separate home treasures from store ones even though the doors appear to be revolving, items are constantly going back and forth to accommodate my decorating whims.

The past few years I have done more shows and events and I have found that to be very rewarding. Currently I have a few sales in my shop each year and concentrate on selling at shows.  You can read about my “exciting” adventures at www.antiejoy.blogspot.com.

A guest room in Joy's home

I can’t remember a time in my life that the women in my family have not been working on “projects”. Quilting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, canning, cooking, baking, gardening and any other craft or project that struck their fancy.

In college, I was impressed by the fact that this is an integral part of our lives - our need to create and surround ourselves with beauty. I feel it is very important to recognize the value of what has typically been referred to as “women’s art.”

I am so impressed by what women create for their homes, that they take the time and energy to go beyond what is necessary and create something of beauty.

I love old things and especially ones that were made by women. I enjoy taking something that someone lovingly created, and reusing parts that would otherwise be thrown away. It is a double pleasure having something “new” and saving something old.

Joy has been featured in Romantic Homes Magazine and Country Almanac.

To know her is to love her.  She is kind, warm, a friend to many, and a loving wife and mom.

She has been a part of our show for a couple of years and of course, brings much Joy.

Look for her antiques space and the spaces of several of her friends at our show - all traveling in from Oregon.
