Upon entering Arlene's studio you can’t help but notice the wide array of materials in boxes and bins and baskets around her large work table. It's like a peddler opening his pack. Buttons - old and new, shells, feathers, beads, vintage flowers and lace, old tags and cotton ribbon.
Seeing the room is like seeing one of Arlene’s creations - a combination of old and new, primitive and fanciful.
It all began when Arlene was a little girl growing up on a dairy farm in southern Idaho. Her mother was very industrious and productive. She had to be.
Arlene has always been intrigued with old things, and art supplies. She loves garage sales, found objects, and working with vintage fabrics.
One year she decided that her creative process couldn't wait any longer. She looked around at all the things she'd collected over the years and started putting them together, one piece after another. And just like that, her business, Heartrocks Home, was born.
