The women who came before me inspire what I create with fabric, words, and little bits and bobs. From patchwork bags inspired by my great-grandmother's quilts, to aprons that remind me of baking cookies with my mother to poems stitched onto pillows, every piece I design has a story.
As I collect the items I create with, I have found that I've never met a pink button I didn't adore and I can spend hours looking through old linens, handkerchiefs, books, and other ephemera. I enjoy thinking about the history that lives inside these vintage treasures and how someone, somewhere loved each one before I found it. Through my designs, these items can continue to share their stories.
I live in a little home in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, Jon, and Millie, our golden retriever. They both kindly tolerate the duets that flow through the air as I sing along with my iPod, the way the contents of my studio, the little room, sometimes take over all the other rooms in our house, and the sewing machine that often whirs late into the night. Through Jon's never-wavering support, I have begun to really live my creative life.
When you visit my booth at The Farm Chicks Show, my hope is that through my creations, you will connect with the past while decorating your world with joy and color. ~Liz |
