After many years of not believing the word creative would ever be used to describe a soul such as mine, the perfect mix of family traits came together and I found something I really love to do. After many failed attempts from my grandmother trying to teach me how to knit or crochet, a latch hook project gone wrong, (Callie spelled out in yellow with an orange background, how long is the name Callie anyway?) and the perfect pair of drawstring pants in a beautiful blue linen that turned out like M.C. Hammer’s Can’t Touch This, I felt as though there was truly no hope. But alas, because of a pair of crazy priced eyeglass holders, I discovered the joy of jewelry and was inspired.
Eventually, inspired by my eyeglasses, I taught myself to make jewelry, using precious and semi-precious stones often knotted by silk the way my grandmother's pearls used to be.
I love the way silk adds polish or funk to a piece, depending on my mood or the mood of the client. I typically use either sterling or 14 karat gold-filled wire, or if requested, 14 karat yellow or white gold.
I often use nature as an inspiration along with
anything else that catches my eye. I try to incorporate color into my jewelry by always trying to come up with color combinations that look like they just belong together, like warm chocolate chip cookies and milk.
