I have always been craftsy, from sewing my own clothing to my children's. Crocheting, embroidery, crewel work, cross-stitching - you name it, I have probably tried it.
Since 1999, when a friend of mine convinced me to start quilting, and another friend to start stained glass, my true passions have come full-circle. I love the mediums of both - one forgiving, the other not at all.
I never know what the final product is going to look like until it is out of the kiln. Each piece is an original and I couldn't duplicate it even if I wanted to.
I have always wanted to make jewelry that would be meant for everyday use. Nothing distresses me more than giving a gift to someone that they won't use. After a house fire back in 1980 that literally left me with nothing but the clothes on my back, I have lived life using everything I have on a daily basis. Hence the name, Everyday Jems.
My hope is that this jewelry will be worn with a nice evening gown, to perhaps a pair of blue jeans when you're going to the grocery store. Every day is meant to be enjoyed and we are worth it to enjoy every jem. ~Barbara |
