SAMPLER PLACE MARKERS
For a dolled-up Thanksgiving table, we created some quick and easy place markers out of a recent flea market find - vintage textile samples. Many of the samples came in a rectangular shape, measuring 5”x3.5”. We simply folded the samples in half and ironed in place. Next, we took pinking shears and cut strips of contrasting fabric for the names. We centered the contrasting fabric on the samples and hot-glued into place. Last, we stamped the names for each marker on the contrasting strips.
TIPS:
Our fabric pieces were heavy, making them easily able to stand on their own. If you prefer a lighter weight fabric, heavily starch and iron the fabric into place before beginning the project.
Don’t have little stamps? Hand-printed names look great too.
We have a large variety of vintage letter stamps that we’ve collected over the years. Almost all have been found in thrift shops in unmarked boxes at the bottom of shelves and at yard sales in the free box or trash pile. Don’t be afraid to dig!
