Last week, Colin and I attended a beautiful farm-to-table dinner arranged and conducted by Outstanding in the Field, a tiny company founded by a chef, whose brother is a pioneering organic grower. His vision was to create a roving restaurant without walls, where guests can enjoy a meal with the farmers, growers, and culinary artisans who grow and work the ingredients, oftentimes in the setting the food is grown. Our setting was Monteillet Fromagerie

We were greeted with local wines and small bites near their farmstead cheese shop and tasting room.

Then we were off to meet the goats during milking, learn about the cheesemaking operation, and to tour Nourish Gardens, nestled amongst Monteillet Fromagerie’s 32 acre farmstead, where I was inspired by the clover paths, grown to add nitrogen to the soil, and learned about biodynamic horticulture and agriculture.

And then it was time to grab a plate and let the feast commence.

It was a dinner to remember.

IT'S ME, SERENA!

In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!
